SIGNING OF A MOU TO STRENGTHEN WOMEN'S PROTECTION PROGRAMMES SIGNED IN JAKARTA (DBK)

Jakarta (DBK): The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will collaborate with the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) to enhance the programmes of the Directorate General of Christian Community Guidance related to the protection of women. This was conveyed by Jeane Marie Tulung, Director General of Christian Community Guidance, at the MoU signing event between the Directorate General of Christian Community Guidance and the Education Sub-Commission of Komnas Perempuan at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Building, 10th Floor, M.H. Thamrin, on Monday, May 6, 1924. It is known that the Directorate General of Christian Community Guidance collaborated with the Fellowship of Churches in Indonesia (PGI) before the MoU was signed with Komnas Perempuan. The Director General stated, "State Christian Religious Colleges, under the guidance of the Directorate General of Christian Community Guidance, have internally issued Rector Decrees on handling violence not only against women but also for all students within the college environment, as well as in Christian Religious Education Schools." Heemlyvaartoe D. Danes, Secretary General of Komnas Perempuan, stated that violence-free zones should be jointly supervised, including by work units under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, as they target the religious life of all people in Indonesia within society. Theological colleges will rely on this cooperation agreement as a starting point. Danes stated, "We are exploring and giving victims the courage to report after the establishment of this task force because they believe that their complaints will be investigated." The event was attended by Johni Tilaar, Secretary of the Directorate General of Christian Community Guidance. Sudirman Simanihuruk, Director of Christian Education; Amsal Yowei, Director of Christian Religious Affairs; Prof. Alimatul Qibtiyah, Chair of the Education Sub-Commission of Komnas Perempuan; Ngatini; and Iis Eka Wulandari, working members of the Education Division of Komnas Perempuan; Salmon Pamantung, Head of the Higher Education Sub-Directorate of the Directorate General of Christian Community Guidance; and Levina Nahumuri, Head of the Community Empowerment and Cultural Development Sub-Directorate.
