GKI SYNOD IN TANAH PAPUA TRAINS CLASSIS TREASURERS TO USE DIGITAL FINANCIAL APPLICATION

Jayapura, 25 August 2026 – The Synod of the Evangelical Christian Church (GKI) in Tanah Papua held a Financial Application Training for Classis Treasurers of GKI in Tanah Papua over two days, 24–25 August 2026, in Jayapura. The training ran daily from 08:00 to 17:00 Papua Time (WP) and aimed to equip classis treasurers to record and manage church financial transactions using a digital application.

The event carried the theme “Realizing Transparent, Accountable and Digitally Based Church Financial Management for the Improvement of GKI Ministry in Tanah Papua.”

In the opening remarks, the organizers stated that managing church finances is part of stewardship. According to the remarks, finances are managed so that congregational ministry can run, faith formation can take place, the church can be present in society, and the proclamation of the Gospel can continue.

Following the remarks, the training was officially opened.

Based on video documentation of the event, participants took part in step-by-step practice using the application. The material included how to copy transaction evidence numbers, open the cash evidence menu, and enter receipt numbers according to the available evidence.

Participants were also trained to input receipts and to edit and delete data when recording errors occur. The facilitator noted that all steps for using the application are contained in a guidebook, allowing participants to review them after the training.

During the discussion session, participants suggested that the application be made easier to use. One proposal was to assign operators at the congregational level, so that recording can be carried out directly by trained staff.

Toward the end of the second day, the organizers asked participants for their views on how useful the digital tool is for their work as treasurers. The training was then officially closed with an expression of thanksgiving, met with applause from the participants.

The training is part of the GKI Synod in Tanah Papua’s efforts to strengthen church financial governance so that it is more transparent and accountable, as reflected in the event’s theme.
