GOVERNOR OF PAPUA MOUNTAINS PROVINCE INAUGURATES THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY BRANCH OF PAPUA MOUNTAINS PROVINCE

On Saturday, December 7, 2024, the Medical Community "Papua Tanpa Batas" (Boundless Papua) Branch of Papua Mountains Province was officially inaugurated at the BPJS Office in Wamena. The event was attended by the Acting Governor of Papua Mountains, Velix Wanggai; BP3OKP Chairperson, Hantor Matuan; BPJS Health Chairperson, Dr. Freda Yanne Imbiri, MM; a representative from Helivida, Pilot Mathew; leaders of PDGJ; the Chairman of the GKI Baliem Yalimo Synod; Kingmi Church leaders in Jayawijaya; Basarnas Wamena representatives; and community founders, advisors, and supervisors.

Franciskus Xaverius Rumere, one of the founders, explained that the Medical Community was formed by young members of the GKI Port Numbay Synod who empathized with the difficulties faced by congregations in accessing healthcare services due to economic constraints. Over time, the community expanded and removed barriers of ethnicity and religion, transforming into the inclusive "Papua Tanpa Batas" Medical Community.

The second speech was delivered by the General Chairperson, Dr. Ruth Yoteni, who expressed the readiness of the community to provide services in the Papua Mountains region. She emphasized the community's mission to be an extension of the government and the church in addressing the needs of the people, guided by the vision that "our service is a form of our tithe to God."

Dr. Fransina Yoteni, a community advisor, commended the youth in the medical field for their humanitarian vision and noble service. BP3OKP Chairperson Hantor Matuan highlighted four key priorities: improving education quality, reducing extreme poverty, tackling stunting, and enhancing healthcare services. He expressed commitment to collaborate with the community, particularly through the Papua Mountains Health Card initiative.

Acting Governor Velix Wanggai praised the Medical Community "Papua Tanpa Batas" for their six years of service in the Papua Mountains region. He emphasized the need for strategic collaboration to address community needs, stating, "Healthy people can be productive." He also pledged financial support, including a stimulus fund and a secretariat office for 2025.

The final speech was delivered by Dr. Ronny Oagai, Chairperson of the Papua Mountains Branch. He shared the challenges faced by the community, including limited transportation, lack of funding, and infrastructure constraints. "This is the essence of love-driven service," he remarked.
