REVIEW OF REVITALIZATION OF KUA SERVICES FOR ALL RELIGIONS: A PGI DISCUSSION
Director of Christian Affairs, Rev. Dr. Amsal Yowei, SE, M.Pd.K., attended a limited discussion organized by the communion of churches in Indonesia (PGI) on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Grha Oikoumene Salemba Jakarta. This discussion was themed "Kua belongs to all religions. The Attitude of the Church?".
During the meeting, Rev. Dr. Proverbs Yowei conveyed the importance of revitalizing the services of the Office of Religious Affairs (Kua) as a priority program of the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. It is intended that the services provided in KUA can be designed and optimized to serve all religions in Indonesia.
According to Rev. Dr. Proverbs Yowei, the provision of KUA services for all religions is not only limited to wedding services but also includes various other services that can be enjoyed by religious people in KUA. This is reinforced by the existence of religious extension workers who will be empowered in their duties and functions at the sub-district level.
The revitalization of the KUA function is also considered one of the efforts to realize religious moderation. As the face of the Ministry of Religious Affairs at the sub-district level, KUA is expected to be a mirror that the Ministry of Religious Affairs belongs to all religions through an equitable approach to service.
Rev. Dr. Proverbs Yowei also expressed his hope that with the revitalization of KUA for all religious people, it will be easier to access services provided by the government. This is expected to provide convenience and comfort for all religious people in Indonesia.
The discussion was attended by a number of religious leaders, including Rev. Henrek Lokra as moderator, Rev. Jacky Manuputty as General Secretary of PGI, Drs. Akhmad Sudirman Tavipiyono, MM, MA, as director of population registration and civil registration at the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration, and Jhony Simanjuntak as chairman of the PGI Legal Working Group.
