LCC INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN LITHUANIA PROMOTE PEACE THROUGH THURSDAYS IN BLACK
LCC International University in Klaipeda, Lithuania, has been actively supporting the Thursdays in Black campaign, which focuses on raising awareness about gender-based violence. This initiative aims to break the silence surrounding sexual and gender-based violence while helping survivors heal and fostering a culture of prevention.
During a university event, students and staff attended the "Waterfall of Solidarity and Resistance" exhibition, which featured powerful testimonies from survivors of gender-based violence. The emotional reactions from the attendees demonstrated the profound impact of these stories on those who visited the exhibition.
Ieva Rūkė, the peace programs coordinator at the university’s Center for Dialogue and Conflict Transformation, noted that students experienced a range of emotions, from shock and sadness to gratitude for the open discussion of this crucial issue.
The Thursdays in Black campaign has not only created awareness on campus but also extended its reach through collaborations with local communities and international partners, including Klaipeda University. Through these efforts, the university is committed to fostering a culture of peace and empowering students to take an active role in preventing gender-based violence.
With a strong focus on education, LCC International University aims to shift the narrative around violence towards more peaceful behaviors, both on campus and in the broader community.
