DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION: BUILDING DIGITAL LITERACY FOR CHRISTIAN EXTENSION WORKERS

Jakarta (DBK) Digital literacy is the main focus of an effort to improve the competence of Indonesian people in this digital era. In order to achieve this goal, the Indonesian government has initiated various programs and encouraged cross-sectoral cooperation. One of them is to involve Christian extension workers in efforts to build stronger digital literacy. Proverbs Yowei, director of Christian Affairs, stressed the importance of the role of religious extension workers as an extension of the government's hand in delivering programs that support the development of the Times. This was revealed at the Cakap Literasi Digital event for Christian extension workers held at the Lumire Hotel and Convention Center on March 18–20, 2024.

On this occasion, Proverbs Yowei also underlined the revitalization of the Religious Affairs Office (Kua), which is expected to become a service center that facilitates extension workers in carrying out their duties more effectively. "Digital literacy has a very important relevance, considering that the services that will be held at KUA will provide status equivalent to the Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in the district," said Yowei. The Special Staff of the Minister of Religious Affairs for Communication and Media, Wibowo Prasetyo, also added that Christian extension workers need to improve digital literacy by paying attention to digital ethics. This ethics includes awareness of the wise use of digital media, responsibility in its use, integrity in online behavior, and prioritizing benevolent values in sharing information. Prasetyo emphasized that the role of extension workers is not only limited to providing information but also as clarifiers in the community. He also highlighted the challenges and opportunities faced by Indonesia in maintaining tolerance amid diversity. "Tolerance is not just a word but must be realized in daily practice," he stressed. With more attention to digital literacy for Christian extension workers, it is hoped that a smarter generation can be created by using digital technology and maintaining ethics and virtues in their online interactions. This is an important step in building a developed and tolerant Indonesian nation in this digital era.
