MR. AGUS HUKUBUN CELEBRATES HIS 80TH BIRTHDAY AT GKI SILOAM WAENA

Waena, April 15, 2025 – Mr. J.A.A. Hoekoeboen, affectionately known as Bu Gus by the STFT GKI family, joyfully celebrated his 80th birthday. The thanksgiving event was held at the GKI Siloam Waena Hall and was attended by lecturers, staff, students, alumni, and members of the GKI Siloam Waena congregation.

Bu Gus is a retired staff member of STFT GKI who had served since the 1970s. During his tenure, he was responsible for managing academic administration, finance, and various other campus affairs. He was known as a "single fighter," as at that time, all administrative work was still done manually by handwriting or typewriter, and administrative personnel were very limited.

The thanksgiving service was led by Rev. Sientje Latuputty, D.Th., with the reading taken from Numbers 6:22–27. In her sermon, Rev. Sientje conveyed that reaching the age of 80 is a tremendous victory. She emphasized that not many elderly individuals remain healthy and independent like Bu Gus at that age. According to her, the strength to journey through life to this point comes from God's love and protection.

After the service, the Chairwoman of STFT GKI, Rev. Dr. Diana Jenbise, M.Th., delivered a speech. She then invited lecturers, staff, and alumni from various generations to share their memories of Bu Gus.

During the sharing session, many alumni expressed their gratitude for Bu Gus's sincerity. He was known as a generous figure, often opening his home to students in need, giving pens from his pocket to students, and even helping to fund the education of several students from his own salary.

The event concluded with a prayer of thanksgiving and expressions of gratitude for Bu Gus's sacrifices, dedication, and love throughout the years. The STFT GKI family continues to pray that God will bless and protect Bu Gus.
