Christian Family Development Programme in the Yapen Islands to fortify the young generation from promiscuity
On November 15, 2023, in the Yapen Islands, the head of the Regional Office (Kakanwil) and the head of Christian Religious Affairs of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Papua Province and his entourage carried out the Christian Family Development Programme for the 2023 fiscal year in the Yapen Islands. It was attended by 50 families of various church denominations. In his speech, Kakanwil emphasised the importance of family as a good place to apply God's love and mercy, as well as the teachings of God's word. He expressed concern about the condition of families who lack guidance, considering the impact on the younger generation.
"Family is the main foundation for shaping the character of children. If the family is not well built, we risk losing generations. Children will seek their identity outside, who are vulnerable to promiscuity and other negative impacts," said Kakanwil. Christian Family Development is designed to provide a better understanding of the role of the family in developing religious and moral values. The programme also aims to mitigate the risk of promiscuity and other negative impacts that may be faced by the younger generation. Coaching participants come from various church denominations, creating diversity and togetherness in an effort to improve the quality of Christian families. Coaching materials involve aspects of daily life that are relevant to religious values. It is hoped that this programme can be the first step in fortifying the younger generation against various challenges in an evolving society. Kakanwil also invites all relevant parties to jointly support family development in order to create a healthy and safe environment for the growth and development of the next generation.
