THE DIRECTOR GENERAL OF CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY GUIDANCE EMPHASISES THE ROLE OF THE CHURCH IN FACING THE CHALLENGES OF THE WORLD

SURABAYA, (DBK)— Director General of Christian Community Guidance Jeane Marie Tulung emphasised the important role of the church in facing the challenges and uncertainties of the current world during the opening of the National Working Meeting (Rakernas) of the Gereja Allah Peduli Indonesia (GAPI). She encouraged the church to evaluate their journey, assess what has been achieved, and plan for the future. The church must consider and reflect on this GAPI 2024 conference. The Director General emphasised that this meeting is a great opportunity to strengthen each other, learn from one another, and celebrate successes together. The Director General stated that Rakernas is an opportunity to strengthen each other, learn, and celebrate achievements together. Furthermore, it is a time to measure our accomplishments and plan the next steps. Jeane Marie Tulung also said that the church has a vital role as a mediator of peace amid conflict and instability. "In a world often marked by conflict and division, the church plays a crucial role as a mediator of peace." She stated that they are called to be bridges, bringing harmony within their communities and promoting reconciliation. "Love is the core of our ministry. Love is the force that drives the church and gives meaning to every action we take. We must prioritise care, involvement, and commitment to the well-being of others," she stressed. To ensure effective service, the Director General encouraged close collaboration among various parts of the church. "One of the main goals of Rakernas is to strengthen collaboration and coordination among congregations, synods, and denominations," she said. Samuel Sugianto, chairman of the Rakernas Committee, expressed gratitude and appreciation for the opportunity to serve the church leaders. He emphasised the importance of serving with a sincere heart, as mentioned in Luke 22:27. Rev. Alvonce Poluan, Chairman of the Gereja Allah Peduli, spoke about the three important pillars of church ministry: financial independence, service, and assets. He concluded, "This vision and independence are summarised in the threefold calling of the church: Koinonia, Diakonia, and Marturia, which must continue to be lived and practiced."
