RESPONSIBILITY AND SERVICE: BUILDING QUALITY LEADERSHIP

RESPONSIBILITY AND SERVICE: BUILDING QUALITY LEADERSHIP

At one time, James and John came to Jesus with a request that they both be given an important place in his future government. They hoped to sit to his right and left, with their mother, Salome, meddling in the supplication. They fantasize about getting a prestigious position, such as being a minister or cabinet secretary, which shows their desire for power and influence. However, Jesus insists that their desires are not fully understood. Following him is not just about fulfilling personal desires or gaining convenience. Jesus explained that following him also means being willing to suffer. He likened his followers to those who should drink the same cup as him or receive the same baptism. Currently, in the context of the election of leaders such as the president, vice president, DPR, and regional heads, many people are vying for positions. However, for people who claim to be God's children, getting positions should not be something that is fought for by improper means or through corrupt practices. The acquired office should be considered a trust that should be entrusted to God and society. Everyone who occupies a leadership position must be aware of their responsibility to fight for the interests of society and serve with integrity. For those who are elected to the House of Representatives or other government positions, it is important not to feel devastated if they fail in the election. Instead, they must understand that their responsibility is to serve God and the people well. Elected leaders must steer clear of acts of corruption or abuse of power. They must put the interests of society first and act wisely for the common good and progress. So, the attitude that should be taken by prospective leaders is one that is responsible and ready to serve, not just chasing power and position for personal interests.
