DR. ANTHON RUMBEWAS SHEDS LIGHT ON GKI TP CHURCH ORDER DISCUSSION
Jayapura, October 28, 2024 - True to his punctual style, Dr. Anthon Rumbewas arrived at room F3 five minutes before the discussion began at the Izaak Samuel Kijne School of Theology and Philosophy (STFT) GKI in Jayapura. During the event, Dr. Rumbewas addressed student questions regarding elements of the GKI Tanah Papua Church Order, established at the Synod Assembly in Waropen in 2020.
He explained the meaning behind church symbols, such as the menorah, and why the pulpit holds such "sacred" significance. The discussion also covered key issues, including the church's stance on cohabitation without marriage, the removal of applause from worship services, and perspectives on offerings.
The lively discussion was moderated by Valentine, who eventually had to limit the time due to the event's schedule. Nonetheless, many attendees found the discussion highly valuable, gaining deeper insight into church order practices that may have previously been unclear.
As a surprise at the end, a birthday cake was presented to Dr. Anthon Rumbewas, who celebrated his birthday on the previous Monday. The brief celebration was filled with cheerful singing from the students and staff present.
Such meaningful discussions are evidently needed, not only by students but also by the wider congregation. Thank you, Dr. Anthon, for an enlightening and insightful evening.
