The church leader stated: "We see genuine repentance."

The leader of a network of evangelical churches in the UK stated that there had not been a "significant influx" of asylum seekers converting to the Christian faith, contrary to what was reported by the media.

After the acid attack in Clapham last week, the question of the asylum seekers ' claims of repentance arose. After admitting to having converted to Christianity, the suspect Abdul Ezedi received asylum.

Because of the attack, Suella Braverman wrote in the Telegraph that she was "aware churches across the country are facilitating industrial-scale bogus asylum claims".

The church must respond to politicians ' accusations that they are helping asylum seekers game the asylum system through false claims of conversion.

Graham Nicholls, leader of Affinity, writing in a blog for the church network's website, acknowledged that it was a "challenging area" and said that church leaders must be smart and act with "integrity and wisdom."

There are examples of people who "pretend", but he remains "real".

"The church is not responsible for the asylum system, and it is not our right to determine whether anyone has the right to stay here. He said, " Our job as church leaders is to deal with this issue with compassion and commitment to truth, guided by the principles embodied by Christ."

Our personal experience with asylum seekers seeking refuge in Christianity has not shown any significant evidence of abuse.

However, I know situations where people who have come from other countries with genuine spiritual hunger have repented and are now living well as disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Nicholls stated that church leaders should show "sympathy rather than cynicism" to those asking for help and that they should "extend compassion" to anyone who shows a "genuine" interest in the Christian faith, especially those with such an interest.threaten them.

He acknowledged that church leaders should pay attention to "red flags" and that there is a need for "heightened vigilance", but he insisted that this applies to everyone interested in the Christian faith.

However, we recognize the importance of discernment, as it should be for anyone who says they are Christians. We are responsible for checking the correctness of a person's beliefs and seeing how they implement their new beliefs. He said, "Unfortunately, in some situations, we may have decided that, for whatever reason, they are "pretending".

We recognize that in certain situations greater vigilance is needed to identify potential "red flags" that may indicate insincerity.

We love and welcome sincere conversions to Christ of all faiths and none at all, while also providing a welcoming environment for those who are truly at risk in their home countries.  Nevertheless, we are also committed to acting wisely and honestly. As Christian leaders try to navigate this challenging area, pray for them.
