HUMAN EMPOWERMENT IN THE WORKPLACE SERMON

SERMON SUNDAY 7 JAN 2024

Kejadian : 4:1-16

The Beloved Church Of Christ,

What kind of offering is pleasing to God? This is the main problem that appears in this article.

In the context of empowerment, which is the central theme of GKI in 2024, the first thing we note from these two figures is that God wants people to work. Cain was a farmer, and Abel was a rancher.

Since sin entered human life, man is obliged to work because the land becomes cursed and does not produce results unless it is worked and processed. Cain and Abel offered their labor to the Lord. The Lord was pleased with Abel and his offering, but not with Cain and his offering. Does God prefer meat over vegetables? No! Or because the fabric only gives part of the result? Neither! Then what? .

First, God was pleased with Abel, whose heart loved God. Cain's heart was filled with anger because there was no place for God. A heart that does not love God is rejected.

Second, Abel offered an offering as a sign of his faith in God and that he believed in his inclusion and care. 

Third, Abel offered to glorify God, not to demonstrate his success.

Let's reflect honestly and see how we give offerings to God.

First, if you and I work, then we are obliged to give the part that we dedicate to God as a sign of recognition that God blesses your life and work. Don't be greedy and deny his blessings.

Second, your offering is a sign of your faith that you are entrusting your life, your work, and your family to its maintenance.

Third, make your offering in order to glorify God's name rather than for personal or external praise. Many Christians like to get angry and disappointed when their offerings are not read. It might be a sign that we are making a presentation in order to gain attention and praise from others.

Fourth, envy is the gateway to sin. Where does envy come from? When you are busy comparing yourself to others, sin is already peeping at the door and teasing you a lot. Be yourself and focus on making yourself better every day.
