Even as the migrant crisis in the U.S. reaches new heights, the Biden administration will reopen a number of crossing points on the southern border this week.

Axios reported that the Biden administration will reopen a number of crossing points on the southern border this week, even as the migrant crisis in the US reaches its peak.

The White House announced on Tuesday that, in response to a surge in immigration, some border crossings that were closed last month will reopen on Thursday, according to Axios. In December, migrant gatherings at the southern border exceeded 300,000 people; this was the highest monthly number ever, as thousands arrived daily.

According to Axios, some of the reopened locations include a border crossing in Lukeville, Arizona; a pedestrian crossing at the port of entry in San Ysidro, California; and the Eagle Pass I International Bridge in Texas. In addition, the Biden administration stated that Mexico will expand its efforts to combat illegal immigration at its southern border, including increasing deportations to southern Mexico and Venezuela, according to CBS News.

State Department Secretary Antony Blinken and Homeland Security Department Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas traveled to Mexico last month to meet with the President. Next month, Biden administration officials will meet again with the Mexican government to discuss progress.

Fox News reports that since the beginning of the 2024 fiscal year, nearly 800,000 migrant encounters have occurred at the southern border. According to Customs and Border Protection, total migrant encounters at the southern border for fiscal year 2023 totaled 2.4 million, an increase of 40% since 2021 and 100% since 2019.

The president or the secretary of the mayor must fix this crisis today because there is enough authority. Although I am not sure that they will be able to solve it completely, it will be of great help in reducing the numbers. Chad Wolf, the Trump administration's DHS Secretary, previously told The Daily Caller News Foundation that "the Biden administration created this crisis, and they have the ability to solve it."
